This was sent to Michelle and teh Youth Group this morning please share with your friends and families.

http://www.fathermcgivney.org/en/index.html

The link above is to the Father McGivney Guild. He is the founder of the Knights and he is now close to being a saint.

There is an awareness drive to get the word out to the Parishes on Father McGivney and his cause for Sainthood.

At our the Knights of Columbus Membership table this weekend (At St. Pauls the Apostle) is a ( fact sheet ) flyer outlying the guild and it good works. Membership is free and it could be a great learn tool to our youth and their family’s on the steps to becoming a saint and participate in a good cause. I would encourage and ask that the youth and there families stop by and pick up the sheet or they can sign up at the web site. If the sign up at the table I will forward the sign sheet to the Guild.

Please encourage and help support this effort for Father McGivney and The Knights of Columbus

If you have any questions please contact me and have a great day

Thanks,

Mark Stoyas

Dear Brother Knight:

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has called on American Catholics to participate in a Rosary Novena for Life and Liberty Oct. 14-22. Knights and their families, in solidarity with our bishops, are encouraged to unite in this prayer for the defense of human life and religious freedom in the United States and around the world.

Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore will lead a Mass and Pilgrimage for Life and Liberty at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., Sunday, Oct. 14, from 12 to 2:30 p.m. Those in Washington and nearby states who are able to attend are invited to participate in the Mass and Rosary, which will be broadcast by EWTN and other Catholic TV outlets.

More information about the novena and Mass is available at kofc.org/pilgrimage.

Knights are also invited to remain informed on current issues by means of CatholicPulse.com, a news portal operated by the K of C. CatholicPulse.com debuted Oct. 1, replacing Headline Bistro as the Order’s source of national, world and Vatican news for Knights and concerned Catholics. Catholic Pulse also provides thoughtful opinions and articles from top Catholic thinkers to help you understand the Church’s perspective on the issues of our day.

Visit CatholicPulse.com to sign up for daily email updates and remain engaged and informed about the news that affects our lives as Catholics every day.

Thank you for appointing me as you acting Chaplain. It is an Honor and I will try to be worthy of the office. As your new chaplain let me tell you something about myself. I joined the Knights in search of growth in ministry, to help, be useful and have a purpose. I became a deacon as part of my search for growth in personal faith. I was initially reluctant, I felt not worthy but then again who of us really are. As an immigrant who has reached most of his goals, I have an outlook that says: Now that I have my American Dream, what am I gonna do with it? Our faith teaches us to share our blessings. Those blessings could be your talent, your time or just your presence.

This brings us to my first question: What do you expect from your chaplain? I come here tonight with more questions than answers. I will be glad to lead prayer, but please note: As Christian men, leaders of our household we should all not just know how to pray but also how to LEAD prayer. I frequently use the “PTA method”. Praise God, Thank God and Ask God. Then if you keep in mind the date, time of year and the occasion, you’re in good shape.

Leading is not necessarily being the first to do something or telling others what to do, but setting a good example. We are shepherds of our own families, that is a big part of our identity as husbands, our kids follow our example, our friends notice it whether we know it or not. How do we treat others, especially difficult people? How do you approach life?

As a deacon my mission can be defined in 3 categories:

 Word – Prayer, preaching, teaching;

 Liturgy – Rites & Rituals such as Masses,weddings,baptism,funerals;

 Charity – helping the poor, this is the most important.

A lot of things have changed since being ordained & being a Knight. In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus asks Peter “Who do you say that I am ?” Let us ask a similar question: When people in our parish hear the words “Knights of Columbus”, who do they think that we are? What goes on in their heads? What is our identity. Does our brand have a positive image? Set aside for a moment what the KoC website says and ask ourselves: How do we carry ourselves as “Knights of Columbus” in St. Paul the Apostle parish? Do we rub people the wrong way? I am not saying that we are but I am just asking. Do we help others? Do we make them want to join us? Who do people say that we are?

While we are asking these questions let us ask another one: How may we help one another?

In my opinion the greatest work we do is charity because it speaks the loudest to God. Actions speak louder than words. Yes we can get involved in a lot of debates or discussions about this or that but at the end of the day it is what we get done that counts. A hundred years from now after all of us here are gone, they will still be debating as they did a thousand years ago or maybe 2 thousand years ago, but who did you help in the meantime? Remember the words of Matthew: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me”.

Who are we brother Knights? Who are we?

Good morning As you may know by now I am a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and have been a Member for more then 20 years.

Cardinal George has asked that October be a month of membership in the Chicago Area . If any of you are intrested please call me at 847-513-1249 or e-mailm.stoyas@sbcglobal.net.

Our Council Divine Mercy will be hosting an information table after each mass for the Month of October so please stop by. Today we are hosting the 10:45 AM mass Honor Guard and all.

I was looking for some way of expressing what the knights means to me and I found this on the Ohio Knights of Columbus Face book Page and it expressed all I wanted to say.

“Membership [in the Knights of Columbus] is about the changed lives of the men we recruit and the financial protection we can provide for their families. Membership is what these men will do for their communities and their parishes. Membership is about renewing the Church through support of our priests and bishops. Membership is about transforming society through Catholic solidarity, through everyone being able to say, ‘I am my brother’s keeper.’”

–Supreme Knight Carl Anderson delivering an address at the end of the Membership Seminar, held during the 130th Supreme Convention in Anaheim this past August.

Our Christmas Tree lot opens November 23rd on the Couner of Gages Lake Road and Hunt Club for its 20th year.

Thank you for your consideration and support of the Knights. I aslo want to say that you to my Daughter Colleen Stoyas for getting me involved with this group which has given us both so much over the years.

Reagrds,

Mark Stoyas
